Dobbs Ferry Police Beat: Woman Flips Bird; Man Throws Bottle, Shredder Swiped
It was a quite week in Dobbs Ferry; here's a rundown of all major police activity.
Possibly due to the storm, Halloween 2011 was exceptionally quiet in the village, said Sgt. Rick Guevara. Police received no calls about eggings or other teenage mischief.
What's most remarkable about this week's blotter, it seems, is how similar it is to the week before (laptop stolen at The Masters School, burglary at CV, teen exposes himself...)
See if you agree.
Nov. 1
- Sgt. Guevara spotted a man driving north in the south-bound lane on Danforth Avenue. When he pulled the man over in the NYSC parking lot and ran his license, Guevara saw the 48-year-old New Rochelle resident had an active police warrant from the City of Yonkers for a petty larceny he allegedly committed a number of years ago.
- Members of the Greenburgh Drug and Alcohol Task Force stopped a driver on Broadway. The driver was charged with criminal possession of marijuana—a violation—and criminal possession of stolen property.
- Police arrested a 41-year-old male for breaking an order of protection awarded to his wife, a Main Street resident. According to police, the man approached his children and was talking to them outside when his wife reported him.
- Sometime between 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 1 and 9 a.m. on Nov. 2, a paper shredder was swiped from the Children's Village gate house. The machine is worth approximately $50; police believe someone gained access to the building through an open window, though they currently have no suspects.
Nov. 2
- A 16-year-old Children's Village resident was charged with reckless endangerment and indecent exposure after throwing a 3-foot piece of wood at a 49-year-old staff member—just missing her—and allegedly dropping his pants. Last week, another teen faced the same charge after exposing himself to his aide.
- A 51-year-old Rivercrest Lane resident reported being the victim of burglary after coming home to find $3,000 worth of jewelry stolen from her residence. Police don't know how the thief gained entrance and are still investigating this case.
Nov. 4
- A 51-year-old Children's Village administrator reported that her wallet was stolen sometime between 3:55 p.m. on Nov. 2 and 3 p.m. on Nov. 4. She estimated its total value to be $2,600. Police have no suspects. Another administrator's wallet was stolen (and recovered) at Children's Village in October.
- A 14-year-old male student of The Masters School reported that his MacBook Pro laptop—valued at $1,200—was stolen from his backpack somewhere in the school's main building. This is the second week in a row that a MacBook Pro has disappeared from the Clinton Avenue private school.
Nov. 6
- A woman reported that sometime between 2:30 and 2:50 p.m. on Nov. 6, a man threw a glass bottle at her car. According to the caller, the driver had been tailgating her for sometime on Ashford Avenue, so, "When she went to make the right turn from Ashford Avenue onto the Saw Mill, she flipped him the bird," Guevara said. In response to her action, the man chucked the bottle at her vehicle, the caller said. She did not provide an estimate for the damage.
Nov. 7
- Dobbs Ferry resident Angela DeRossi was arrested on charges of falsely reporting two bomb threats at the Ashford Avenue Chase Bank. Read the full story here.
