Vote Today: A Guide to Your Local Elections
Know whom you're voting for before you head to the polls Tuesday.
If you live in Hastings, Dobbs Ferry, Irvington or Ardsley, not having contested mayoral or village board races may leave you feeling less than motivated to head to the polls on Tuesday.
However there are important state and county races you'll want to weigh in on.
And if you need an extra nudge—besides looking forward to wearing an 'I Voted' sticker for the rest of the day—Greenburgh Town Supervisor (and candidate) Paul Feiner said he vividly remembers a Hastings school board election in which an uncontested candidate lost to a last-minute write-in contender.
It can happen.
Here's what you need to know today:
Contested races:
Westchester County Board of Legislators, District 12
Incumbent MaryJane Shimsky (D-Hastings) is running against write-in candidate John Russo, a Republican from Hartsdale.
State Supreme Court:
Edward Borrelli, Robert DiBella and Paul Marx will vie for two seats on the State Supreme Court. Terms are 14 years. The three Westchester residents are seeking to fill the open seats in the Ninth Judicial District, which also includes Rockland, Orange, Dutchess and Putnam Counties.

Greenburgh Town Justice
Democrats Arlene Gordon-Oliver, Delores Scott Brathwaite and Walter Rivera took the Democratic primary. Bonnie Orden, who said she is not seeking office, will also appear on the ballot on the Working Families and Independence Party lines.

In Irvington, there is also a local proposition that requires a yes or no vote. If approved by the voters, a local law passed by the Board of Trustees on September 26th to allow fundraising raffles by “authorized organizations” would go into effect. The types of organizations that will be allowed by state law include not for profits, church groups, volunteer firefighters and veterans’ groups. Irvington is one of the few villages or towns in Westchester County that does not have this type of law on the books. Please vote yes.
