Residents Teresa and Bill Caruso resently posted a sign in the window of their shop Festivities, on Main Street in Hastings, that they will be closing their gift and card store. All items—but chocolate and candy—are 25 percent off.
The store will be open again on Tuesday, when we can learn more from the owners; stay tuned for more details.
Festivities has been open since the 1990's.
How do you feel about another Hastings mainstay closing? What type of business do you think could survive, thrive even, in that space.

Wait, Festivities is a gift store. It's the one on Main St., next to Galapagos.

It was a great store and a perfect place to get chocolates and gifts. Good luck to Teresa and Bill, but we will be sad to see you go!

Very sad. In this economy it's surprising any store survives. Of course what the rent is on the location may have something to do with it.

So saddened to hear of the closing of Festivities. My family had GREAT candy/trinkets in their Christmas Stockings and Easter Baskets every year on account of Festivities. Even though I moved away from Hastings years ago, I continued to make the hour long trip to patronize the store. Good Luck to you Teresa in your future endeavors, we'll miss you!

Me too. I'm not 100% sure it was the economy/business climate that motivated their decision, so lets hold off on speculation until we have the whole story. That aside, I'm buying a ton of cards tomorrow!

not 100 percent sure Lizzie that it was the 'business climate'? are you for real?

Yes; sometimes stores close because the owners are moving or ready for a new opportunity. All I can report on is what I know for sure.

These people are wonderful. They are so nice to the kids in town who come in to buy candy or small trinkets. I told them I hate to tell my daughter "we'll go in but we're not buying anything today" because I ALWAYS found something so unique and so reasonably priced that I went against my word! I am sad they are closing, it's just not the store themselves, but the owners who made it so special.

Awww, I'll be sad to see Festivities go. But best wishes to the owners with their new adventures.

I too will be really sad to see my favorite store in town go :(. Teresa was always a great person to talk to. She often went above and beyond what she needed to. She rescued me several times when I needed that special gift. And the chocolates are superb. My prayers are with you!
