Food Fight: Best Family-Friendly Restaurant in the Villages

We're looking for the best place for parents and kids to enjoy a meal in Hastings, Dobbs Ferry, Irvington, Ardsley, Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow.

Sometimes you want to sit down and be served, avoid doing dishes and escape any criticism that crunchy macaroni isn't crunchy enough, shake-and-bake chicken wasn't shaken enough etc.

Sometimes it's nice to go out to dinner—even with the kids. But which restaurants in the Rivertowns can make kid-friendly food that your children enjoy even more than something you could have made from a box for $2. (And leave the adult contingency satisfied as well.)

And in which restaurants won't you have to leave with your coat pulled over your head after one child spilled his soda and the other threw a temper tantrum because her brother kicked her under the table?

Those kid-friendly restaurants are out there. Whether it's because it has an awesome children's menu's, fast and friendly service or just a family-oriented atmosphere, one restaurant must rise above all others as he most family-friendly in the Rivertowns.

Which will it be?

Let the nominations begin (and, of course, tell us why you think this restaurant should be put on our poll on Saturday.)

I'm going to nominate Sam's in Dobbs Ferry because they allowed me to order "a children's portion of veal parmigiana with sauce on the side" until I was about 22. In my defense, the tradition started when I was 4.

Best family restaurant in the rivertowns? No question about it - River City Grille, in Irvington. We've been going there since it opened and Noah (my 3-year-old) has been going since he was born. It is truly the perfect spot in every way. The decor, menu and atmosphere are totally "date-night" worthy but we are just as comfortable bringing the kids there (albeit much, much earlier in the evening...). Paper covered tablecloths and crayons get idle hands occupied immediately (and I've often seen those crayons employed by bigger hands - with no kids in sight!). There is a special "kids' menu" that is kid-palate friendly without being dumbed down. Indeed, our favorite dessert is the "S'mores Quesadilla", found only on that menu! And your child's order can be taken immediately so they are not waiting forever to eat. The staff is the nicest of any restaurant around and they make us feel warm and welcome whenever we arrive. They fuss over Noah and serve us delicious, grown-up food. I often say that River City Grille is my "happy place". What could be better than that?
