Hastings Police: Woman Drunkenly Sideswiped 5 Cars, Fled Scene

Police charged a 20-year-old resident with DWI.

Hastings police charged resident Asheree Griffin, 20, with DWI and leaving the scene of a property damage incident after she allegedly sideswiped five parked cars and fled the scene of the crime, police said.

At around Midnight on Feb. 10, police received several 911 calls about an erratic driver that had "struck five parked cars and crashed into a guard rail on Southside Avenue," Lt. David Dosin said. The damage from the 1999 Ford Infinity reportedly occurred at the intersection of Southside and Washington Avenues.

Officers located the owner of the vehicle at her residence and brought her to headquarters, where she was charged with:

  • DWI
  • Leaving the scene of a property damage incident
  • Refusal to submit to chemical testing
  • unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle (she did not have a Driver's Licence on her at the time.)

"Evidently, the suspect had received tickets in the past for driving without a licence, but we do not know whether she actually does not have one or did not have it on her," Dosin said.

While at police HQ, the suspect felt ill and fainted. She was taken to the hospital via ambulance. Bail was set at $250, which her mother paid, and Griffin was released to return to court later in the week.
