Knocked Down Sign Leads to DWI Arrest

A 58-year-old Tarrytown resident was charged with drunk driving after he allegedly hit a traffic sign on Broadway on Jan. 27.
Police received a call about a knocked over “Yield to Pedestrians” sign around 2:39 a.m. on Broadway. Officers later came across a GMC Denali that was parked in the middle of Walgrove Avenue with the driver’s side door opened and a man lying on the sidewalk.
Police allegedly observed damage to the car that was consistent with the car hitting the sign. A 55-year-old Garnerville woman was found in the car with a bleeding head wound.

She was taken to the hospital while police began to conduct a DWI investigation with the Tarrytown man who was subsequently charged with a DWI, a misdemeanor, and with a violation for refusing sobriety testing.
His car was impounded, he was arrested, released and he will return to court on Jan. 31
