Rivertowns College Roundup: April 29-May 5

See what Rivertowns alumni are up to in the college worlds of sports.

On May 5, at Springfield College, the Babson College softball team dropped a 6-2 decision, with Madison DiNaso of Ardsley walking once and fanning once in the game.

In the final regular season meet at home on May 3, Sarah King of Dobbs Ferry and Vassar College finished second in the women's 3000 meter Steeplechase race.Her time of 11:40.82 was a full 20 seconds below her personal best, and sets the stage for her to compete in the upcoming ECAC Championship at Springfield College. 

Sarah Moore of Irvington, earned 8 points for her Manhattan Jaspers track and field team at the MAAC Outdoor Championship on May 5. In the women's Pole Vault competition, her vault of 3.12 meters earned her second place in the event. Her team finished third overall, behind rivals Rider College and St. Peter's.

In the final baseball of the season for the American International Yellow Jackets, they swept a double header with St. Rose College, 3-2 an 8-1. In the first game, shortstop Eddie Ritch of Dobbs Ferry struck out once and had one putout and four assists, while in the finale, he batted 2-4, had one run batted in during an eighth inning rally, an had a putout and two assists. The team's record for the season was 21-19/12-14. Ritch started in all of the Jackets' games , a record to be proud of.

In the final softball action of the season, Rita Saad of Irvington and The College of New Rochelle, at the HWVAC Invitational at Sarah Lawrence College on May 5, out scored the Yeshiva College nine, 16-8, with the former Bulldog playing at third base for the whole game. The Blue Angels' final record was 8-28 on the season.

In a season ending twin bill with Felician College, Andrew  Pezzuto of Dobbs Ferry and Southern New Hampshire came to bat in the sixth inning, with the score knotted at 3-3, and delivered the game winning hit, a triple deep to the gap in left center that decided the outcome. The Pen Men had a record of 33-16/16-12 on the regular season. 

At the Centennial Conference Championships, held at Ursinus College from May 3 to 5, Julian Saliani of Irvington and Johns Hopkins finished sixth of 36 competitors in the men's 1500 Meter race, with a clocking of 3:57.2, while his Blue Jays team finished second overall behind Haverford College.

In the season finale, Mike Swerdloff of Ardsley and Brandeis University, had his finest mound appearance of the season, as he limited M.I.T. to two runs on three hits in a 3-2 win. The southpaw went all nine innings, and walked two batters and fanned eight, in this, his second straight win, with his final pitching record 4-5. The Judges had a season record of 15-20, and Mike's college baseball career had a most positive conclusion.

At the SUNYAC Track and Field Championships at Cortland State on May 4 and 5, Patrick Wortner of Dobbs Ferry and Geneseo State finished fifth of 16 runners in the Men's 10,000 Meter race, with a time of 32:37.81, and then later, in the Men's 5,000 Meter Race, he was ninth of 17 runners, with a clocking of 15:38.27. The Blue Knights finished fifth of the eight competing teams.
