"Smut Lists:" A Problem for Schools, Parents or Local Police?

Please weigh in: how should the escalating number of cases of cyberbullying be addressed?

A demeaning list of nearly 100 high school girls sent out via Blackberry Messenger and Facebook last week started sounding local alarm bells about the prevalence and seriousness of cyberbullying in local districts.

Last week's sexually-charged list included names of girls—most of whom were under 18— from Harrison, Port Chester, Greenwich, Scarsdale, Rye, New Rochelle and Yonkers.

White Plains school officials became aware of a similar "smut list" in their district later that week.

In Harrison, both school officials and police took the matter very seriously, both condemning whoever posted the list.

Though there has—so far—been no Rivertowns "smut list," all three districts are actively working to combat online harassment.

How do you think such cases of cyberbullying should be handled?
