Trustee Seat to Open in Hastings

Trustee Jerry Quinlan will not run for re-election in March; Nicola Armacost will.

Trustee Jerry Quinlan will not run again again for his seat on the Hastings Board of Trustees, which is up in March; Trustee Nicola Armacost—whose term is also up—currently plans to run again, wrote Mayor Peter Swiderski in an email to the community Tuesday night.

"While any sitting trustee (or mayor, for that matter) can always be challenged when their term expires, an open seat presents an open opportunity for anyone interested in running for the Board of Trustees," Swiderski said.

If you are interested in running as a Democrat, reach out to Ellen Hendrickx at ehendrickx@aol.com or 478-9303; she heads the Hastings Democratic Committee.

To run as a Republican, reach out to Tim Hayes—who heads the Hastings Republican Committee—at timhays@optonline.net.

"In either case, if you would like to be endorsed by the respective Committees, you should move quickly (e.g. in the next few days) because the caucuses where party candidates are chosen are at the end of January and endorsements are typically decided ahead of the caucuses," Swiderski said.

If you wish to run as an independent—or aren't seeking to be endorced by a specific party— contact Deputy Village Manager Susan Maggiotto at 478-3400 ext 611.

"She’ll explain the pleasingly arcane but none-too-difficult steps if you wish to run," Swiderski said.

Who do you think would make a great trustee in Hastings?

I am sad to see Quinlan depart. Curious as to why he's leaving, care to do any reporting on the issue? I doubt he wants anything to do with what is ahead on the waterfront. This leaves only Armacost and Jennings as voices of clarity and truth. Whoever replaces Quinlan lets hope from whence they come is far removed from the character and ethical makeup of Mayor Swiderski. The New Year brings with it a major reality check.

Thanks for your comment; I am planning a follow-up story w/ Trustee Quinlan on the waterfront.
