 tser-author and professor of Russian at Hunter College. He began his car
 eer as a freelance journalist in the Soviet Union\, where he was blackli
 sted. Author of 12 books of artistic and scholarly prose\, his essays an
 d short stories have appeared in The Los Angeles Times\, Partisan Review
 \, San Francisco Chronicle\, and many other American and Canadian period
 icals. His most recent books: Stalin's Romeo Spy: the Remarkable Rise an
 d Fall of the KGB's Most Daring Operative\, and Shush! Growing up Jewish
  under Stalin: A Memoir. He will read and discuss&nbsp\;a chapter from "
 Shush".\nGeorge Kraus\, Ph.D.-holds his doctoral degree in Hispanic and 
 Luso-Brazilian Languages and Literatures from the Graduate Center\, CUNY
 . His chapbook\, Rendition\, was published by Toadlily Press' An Uncommo
 n Accord. His poems have also appeared in The Best of Toadlily Press (20
