A DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE: Former Mets and Yankees World Champion righthander Doc Gooden joined Steiner Sports founder Brandon Steiner at Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway on Monday night, January 14.
Steiner signed copies of his book "You Gotta Have Balls," and conducted a question and answer session for over 300 Elite Club Members at the Casino's Good Time Room. Gooden autographed baseballs for the audience.
Gooden said he was known as Doc as far back as high school, when a friend of his father, who was in fact a medical doctor, yelled from the stands: "Come on Doc, operate on these guys."
When Gooden got to the big leagues, he said "everyone has a nickname in baseball, and I thought Doc was better than Goody," prompting a roar of laughter from the audience.
