Dobbs Ferry Karate (96 Main St) will be collecting donations Mon-Fri this week between 4pm-10pm and all day Satuday for the Rockaways Action Center. Items needed include: Canned goods, Diapers, Formula, Wipes, Feminine products (pads ONLY), Bathroom products, Laundry detergent, Coats, Jackets, and Blankets.
We are also organizing volunteers to come to the Rockaways Action Center to create care packages, sort donations, and most importantly go door to door on Sunday, Dec. 9th from 10:30am-4:30pm.
To give you a better sense of the situation, I attached a picture of a family who was denied any FEMA assistance, citing no visible damage. Behind Jovan you can see a sample of the damage. He and his brothers and sisters are living in a 1st floor NYCHA building which was completely underwater and now mold is everywhere and in everything (i.e. clothes, beds, stuffed animals, on windows, walls and ceilings). This was shot after NYCHA "cleaned" this past week. The picture is from Syd London, a photojournalist documenting the Rockaways.
