Dobbs Ferry Waterfront Renovations Underway

Much of Waterfront Park remains fenced off during construction; village to host groundbreaking ceremony on Friday.

The southern portion of Dobbs Ferry's Waterfront Park has been undergoing renovations for some time, and as of last month, the "the upland improvement phase of the Waterfront Stabilization and Renovation Project" is underway, according to the village website.

A large portion of the Willow Point area of the waterfront park is fenced off, though some of the northern portion of the park, as well as the train station commuter lot, remain open and accessible.

"The Great Lawn will remain open for a portion of time to allow residents and park-users some space to use as the majority of the park is closed, as well the recreation organizations which utilize that area as a playing field in the fall," the village said of the closings on its website. "Eventually the Great Lawn will also need to be closed as new pathways and other improvements are to be constructed around the edges of the property."

The entire effort is expected to last eight to nine months, village officials projected.

"The village asks commuters to navigate the lot slowly and with extra care over these coming months as there will be at times heavy equipment and workers moving around," according to the announcement about the work.

The village board has also been working on a Request for Proposal (RFP) for proposed fishing piers and floating docks at the waterfront; with work expected to begin on those efforts in the spring, finishing around the same time as the upland project.

"While it is sad to temporarily close a large portion of the park, it will be well worth the wait in the end," according to the village. "For when the work is complete, Dobbs Ferry will have the most beautiful waterfront park in the region, which we will all be proud; with new trail ways and paths, lamp lighting, and seating benches; with a new comfort station and a new playground area; and a uniquely designed permanent stage to enhance the enjoyment of music and stage performances with the magnificent Hudson River as backdrop."

Dobbs Ferry will be hosting a Waterfront Park Upland Renovation Project Groundbreaking Ceremony on Friday, Nov. 1, where village, county and state officials will be in attendance. Details here.
