The Nonprofit Excellence Awards recognize strong management practices in area organizations.

Dobbs Ferry non-profit organization The Children's Village has been announced as one of 10 semi-finalists in the 2013 New York Community Trust-New York Magazine Nonprofit Excellence Awards, according to a statement.

"It’s an honor to be selected as a semifinalist from amongst a very strong group of candidates for this prestigious award,”"said Children's Village President and Chief Executive Jeremy Christopher Kohomban, Ph.D.

The standout non-profit organizations also include BronxWorks, CSH, DoSomething.org, Global Kids Inc., HOt ZBread Kitchen, Make-A-Wish Metro New York, Row New York, the Bronx Defenders and Young Women's Leadership Network.

Three of the semifinalists will win the top award and receive $30,000, $20,000 and $10,000 cash prizes.

"By showcasing inventive innovative management at several nonprofits, we can help inspire hundreds of others to learn from best practices," explained New York Community Trust President Lorie Slutsky.

According to Michael Clark, president of the Nonprofit Coordinating Committee of New York, Children's Village and the other semifinalists were chosen based on management practices, as well as " their ability to adapt to their own specific challenges."

Said Philanthropy New York President Ronna Brown, "These semifinalists are doing amazing things, employing vastly different strategies in a diverse array of communities. But they have in common great management practice. We look forward to learning more about their management strategies and hearing directly from them about the institutional practices that have made them standouts in our sector."
