Taking place after the Dobbs Ferry Summer Music Series performances end (Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.), the free movie nights are a family-friendly way to enhance community spirit in a delightful setting where a gentle breeze and the hum of the flowing river add to the overall experience.

The recreation department sets up a screen on the Waterfront Park lawn and starts the movie between 8:15 and 8:30 p.m.—once it is dark enough outside to allow for maximum viewing.  Many families extend their evening by the riverfront and relocate their chairs and blankets by the screen once the concert performance ends.

“I love the movie nights because I get to spend more time with my friends outside and have fun hanging out,” said 8 year-old Dobbs Ferry resident Amanda Matteo.

Added mom Mary Matteo, “We’re indoors too much during the winter so it’s great to enjoy relaxing summer evenings by the Hudson and take advantage of what it means to live in one of the Rivertowns.”

Past movies presented by the Recreation Department have included “Bedtime Stories,” “Madagascar 2,” “Enchanted,” “Race to Witch Mountain” and other family friendly favorites.

The recreation department will also host a free movie night in August (film to be announced).
