Transitioning to a Green Energy Economy
Did you ever wonder Where does our electricity come from? How does it reach our light switch and other devices? Who is taking care of our electrical grid and how do they manage it? Is renewable energy just a wish for the future? If Indian Point is closed, will we have enough energy?
Whether you have thought about these important energy questions or are coming to them for the first time Mission Electric - the Power Is Ours - Transitioning to a Green Energy Economy is a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Many thoughtful people are concerned about the answers, especially as they relate to Indian Point. This is an opportunity to engage in dialog and go beyond sound bytes to a deeper understanding.
Join us for this afternoon of exploration on Sunday, September 30 at Stony Point Conference Center from noon to 5 and discover the answers to these questions and many others concerning a clean and green energy plan for our communities and the Hudson River Valley.
There will be expert speakers, breakout groups on related topics, a panel to look at broader issues and plenty of time for you to ask questions and have them answered in plain language that really makes sense. Topics include: Energy 101: How the grid works and where our electricity comes from; Transitioning to Green Energy: What resources are in place, what is in development. Breakout topics will cover More On the Grid. What’s the Rest of the World Doing with Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Renewables for Our Grid, Faith Based and Community Organizing Strategies., Health and Safety Resolution for Communities and Spent Fuel, Indian Point Update, and More.
Presenters include Andy Spano, former Westchester County Executive; Tom Kacandes of Solar Advantage Solutions, renewable energy expert; Ron Leonard of Eco-NRG. LLC, renewable energy expert; Frank Pinto, retired United Nations Senior Environmental Policy Expert; Tim Judson, Board member, Citizens Awareness Network; Manna Jo Greene, Environmental Director for Hudson River Sloop Clearwater.
Stony Point Conference Center is noted for its lovely campus great facilities and terrific food. They have a stunning art collection so plan to come at noon to see their artwork as well as the Indian Point art installation and media display. Presentations start at 1pm.
