Hastings Mayor: Laser Show Will be Rescheduled

Technical difficulties Friday night forced the planned Hudson River laser show to be canceled.

A weekend full of family fun and celebration down at the Hastings-on-Hudson waterfront was slightly dampened with the planned laser show had to be canceled, Mayor Peter Swiderski shared in a community memo.

"Alas, the stated purpose of the evening, a laser display we all looked forward to, did not in the end materialize," he wrote. "The laser exhibition company contracted for the performance had difficulty drawing sufficient energy to their lasers and were unable to project a strong enough beam for a proper show as a result. They apologized deeply for the disappointment and have promised to return at the organizer's and village's convenience, gratis, to put on the performance they originally promised but failed to deliver."

Anyone who paid to have a special message illuminated on the Palisades received a refund, Swiderski said, and the weekend otherwise went off without a hitch.

"The Village applauds these sort of efforts at community-building and artistic expression and will continue to support them," he said. "We’re all the better for people trying new ways to engage us."
