In Case You Missed it: Riverstowns Week in Review

With the holidays upon us in full swing, you were bound to miss some top news this week in Irvington, Dobbs Ferry and Hastings-on-Hudson. But don’t worry, we’re here to make sure you don’t miss it twice.

Here are some of this week’s more notable headlines:

1. Hastings School District fields community’s input: Dozens of residents took the Hasting-on-Hudson School District up on its invitation to discuss the polarizing Facility Bond Referendum Wednesday night in the high school’s Farragut Complex cafeteria.

2. Here’s your Irvington forecast: Irvington Middle School recently announced its new partnership with the “WeatherBug Schools Program,” and will soon be providing its own weather reports. WeatherBug is a leading provider of consumer and professional weather products and services, and it is also operator of the largest weather observing and lightning network. 

3. Rivertowns, a creative business corridor: YONY Initiative, Inc., a newly formed nonprofit local development corporation based in downtown Yonkers, has identified upcoming businesses in Dobbs Ferry and Irvington as evidence that “creative businesses are attracted to the Hudson River and our historic downtowns.”

4. Check your mail: Dobbs Ferry Police have received three reports from female residents who have received a letter with “sexual narrative” within the last two weeks. The letters tend to be sent in waves that occur once or two a year and "has been going on for years," police said. 

5. A trend still looming: When the Dobbs Ferry High School decided there was no longer enough interest to have a knitting club, tenth grade health teacher Rebecca Wing knew just the thing to replace it: a Rainbow Loom Club
