Local Stories of Love: Dobbs Ferry's Ona and Andy

Rivertowns Patch readers: Send your stories of love to elizabeth@patch.com.

Yesterday, I posted a shout-out on facebook to hear your most romantic and heart-fluttering stories in honor of Valentine's Day.

Here is Dobbs Ferry Patch reader Ona's story about how she met her husband Andy:

Every day is Valentine’s Day in my heart. My husband Andy and I will be married 37 years in August. The best part of my day is when if he leaves earlier than I do in the morning for work or goes to play paddleball on the weekends, and I am still in bed semi-conscious or sleeping; he always kisses me before he leaves. To touch another’s heart is a blessing.

Andy was a patient of my father’s. My mother and his mother used the same obstetrician in the Bronx who recommended my father to be their family doctor.

Andy and I were born in the same hospital—Jewish Memorial—in Manhattan—not standing anymore. We are only six months apart. As a matter of fact, his mom was in my father’s office when my mom had just come back from the obstetrician’s office to tell my dad that I was going to be a twin.

I used to go visit my (future) husband’s house when my dad went on house calls and took me with him. As time passed being from different neighborhoods, we really didn’t socialize in the same group.

Years later when my husband was at my dad’s office for a physical, he came upstairs to our part of the house and at that point after meeting again he decided he wanted to marry me.

The most interesting thing of all is that I was a Hershkowitz marrying a Podell and my mother in law was also a Hirshkowitz marrying a Podell.

It doesn’t get anymore amazing than that!

My husband’s mom is still alive but both my parents have died. I have a lot of warm memories.
