Memorial Day Weekend: Parades, Services, Activities for Kids

Here are some events for the whole family to enjoy on Memorial Day Weekend.

Patch set out to find some fun activities for families on Memorial Day Weekend Here's what we found in the area:

  • Hastings' annual Memorial Day parade begins Sunday, May 29, at 3 p.m. on Warburton Avenue.
  • Dobbs Ferry's annual Memorial Day parade begins at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 30. The parade begins at Mohican Park Avenue and proceeds to the Dobbs Ferry High School and concludes at Memorial Park.
  • Irvington's Memorial Day service and parade begin at 10:45 a.m. Monday, May 30 at the top of Main Street, in front of the village war memorials.
  • Van Cortland Manor (located at 525 South Riverside Avenue, Croton-on-Hudson) is having an Animals and Acrobats event on Saturday, May 28 through Monday, May 30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is a great family event that features a baby bear, airborne acrobats, contortionists, and more! Come one, come all! Experience a cavalcade of creativity! Adults are $12, seniors $10, children from 5-17 $6, and children under 5 and members are free. More info can be found here.
  • On Saturday, May 28 at 1 p.m., Cranberry Lake Preserve’s premiere program, offered to hundreds of school children each year, is open to the public. Join us on this kid-friendly search for tadpoles, water bugs, snails and more. Nets provided, wear rubber boots if you have them. This event is free and is located at Cranberry Lake Preserve, Old Orchard Street, North White Plains, NY 10603. Call (914) 428-1005 for additional information.
  • Playland Park on Sunday, May 29 will have a traditional Memorial Day Ceremony followed by a day of rides, a helicopter search and rescue demonstration by the U.S. Marine Corps, and a performance by the West Point Concert Band. The Memorial Day ceremony will include an honor guard, firing squad, and bugler, and will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Music Tower Theater.
