Moms Who Rock Around Our Towns: Hastings' Britta Alexander

Britta Alexander is founder of Eat Media and author of the blog, Hudson and Hill.

Each week, we're going to share with you a local mom that we think is awesome. We'll ask her some questions and hear about how she manages life with kids in our area. We hope you'll enjoy getting to know some of our neighbors.

Britta Alexander lives in Hastings with her husband Ian and their two boys Judah (almost 2) and Isaiah (3). She is the founder of Eat Media, a content strategy/design/development agency, located in Hastings. She also writes about motherhood in her blog, Hudson and Hill.

1. How do you balance being a mom and working?
"Crazy planning and good child care." Britta shared that "not working a full 5 days a week has been a lifesaver. I've played around with my schedule quite a bit and found that having at least one "mommy day" was hugely important to all of our sanity."

Plus, she recently took a "mommy sabbatical" to spend more time with her boys before they start school. "At first I thought I'd be making every craft I find on Pinterest and going to every toddler hour around town," she says. "But then the reality of toddler life set in and we mostly end up playing 'Fireman to the Rescue' in the backyard."

2. We think your personal blog is a great idea and would love to hear more about it.
Britta writes the blog, Hudson and Hill. It is "her way of sharing the results her obsessive planning and research with other moms." She started writing it after her second son was born. Becoming the mom of two under two was "incredibly overwhelming." Britta's honest account of her life with the boys and tips and tools she uses and is learning is a great read for any parent.

3. When you find time for yourself, what do you enjoy doing locally?
Britta enjoys having drinks with local mom friends and shares that the "garden at Harvest in the summer, and Cookery or Harper's when it's cold outside" are some of her favorite spots. She also enjoys yoga at YogaWorks and losing track of time at Chelsea's and Re-find.

4. What are some of your top things to do around Westchester with your family?
The Alexander family frequents the Hastings Farmer's market, enjoys visiting some of the beautiful parks near their home and checking out the other local villages.

Britta's 3- year-old likes to stay close to home, so a new favorite activity is  "putting on "comfy pants," having "movie night" and waiting for Slices to ring the doorbell."

5. What is your favorite thing about living in this area?
Britta loves the people, the natural beauty, and the "small-town-feel" of the area even though it is so close to New York City.
