Seniors Keep Active with Nintendo Wii

Local seniors find nostalgia and exercise through video games.

While most of the video game industry markets their products to the younger population, the Nintendo Wii has found an active audience among  senior citizens across the country. The gaming console has been praised by physical therapists for it's interactive format, which encourages movement and helps speed-up rehabilitation. Rather than sitting on a couch, the Wii pushes its players to be active by simulating movements in coordination with what's happening on the screen.

We headed to Andrus-on-Hudson, a community for elders located in Hastings-on-Hudson, that has embraced the gaming technology. The Wii provides residents at the facility with the ability to play their favorite sports from years past that they may no longer have the physical capacities to participate in. While the system features such sports as tennis, baseball, boxing and golf, it seemed that bowling was the most popular game during our visit.

In a strange twist of events, watch the video below to see the elders teach the youngsters how to play video games!
