Wellness Practitioner Returns to the Rivertowns

Dr. Michael Kennis reopens Center for Acupuncture and Integrative Wellness in Dobbs Ferry

“The body is not a machine,” says Dr. Michael Kennis, “it is a living system.”

Dr. Kennis has spent years putting that philosophy to work. He treats patients using non-force chiropractic, acupuncture, and nutritional counseling, and he recently returned to the Rivertowns to open a new location of The Center for Acupuncture and Integrative Wellness.

The center, located on 369 Ashford Avenue in Dobbs Ferry, offers a holistic approach in the treatment of chronic pain and stress. Dr. Kennis treats his patients by looking at the whole person and by gaining an understanding of the individual.

Dr. Kennis does not attack the pain, he balances the individual who suffers from pain by freeing up a blocked system.

“These systems help restore natural function and rhythm, which are often lost by the pace of modern life,” he said.

Dr. Kennis can clear irritations and energy blocks, and he has developed an understanding of how stress in the body manifests itself as pain. Dr. Kennis refers to this as “rebooting the system,” but from my point of view, it’s just getting on with my life pain-free.

Acupuncture works via stimulating the release of natural pain relievers in the body. This also will improve one’s immune response. National Institute of Health studies have shown that acupuncture treatment help with conditions such as osteoarthritis of the knee and the side effects of chemotherapy. However, according to Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture can treat most health concerns except medical emergencies and infection.

Dr. Kennis often refers his patients to, and will work with, conventional medical professionals in orthopedics and neurology. He is also a clinical nutritionist, bringing further insight to digestive issues, fatigue, inflammation and stress.

To learn more about Dr Kennis' techniques, join him at a free talk entitled “Successful Aging” at 7-8:30 p.m. on Friday, May 13. The discussion will take place at The Center for Acupuncture and Integrative Wellness, 369 Ashford Ave., 2nd floor, Dobbs Ferry. An RSVP is required by calling 914-433-9340 or emailing  pport2health@msn.com.
