Croton Water and the Tunnel That's Under Your Feet

This is a family program for New York Heritage Weekend on the important role the Old Croton Aqueduct played in keeping citizens healthy with access to fresh water. The 41-mile long aqueduct runs through the village of Dobbs Ferry.  The Dobbs Ferry Public Library will sponsor a program led by the president of the Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct, Mavis Cain. She will give a presentation on what life was like before and after fresh water came to New York City via the Old Croton Aqueduct. She will describe the conditions that led to the decision to build the aqueduct and the affects that living without access to fresh water had on the health of residents of the City.
