Hudson Valley Music Club Student Awards Concert

Four winners of the annual Student Awards Competition of the Hudson Valley Music Club will play for the concert which is open to the public, admission $15.  These young musicians are high school students who live in Westchester Country.

Kevin Liu of Hartsdale is a senior at Edgemont High School and studies piano with Rochel deOliveira at the Hoff-Barthelson Music School.  He participates in the Baroque and Beyond Festivals there and performs in the RING concerts that are part of the school’s community outreach program.  Kevin plays in a chamber music group and is a pianist for his church congregation.  He also plays the saxophone and performs in jazz ensembles and with his school band.

 Surin Ahn of Larchmont is a freshman at Mamaroneck High School and studies cello with Lila Ainsworth.  She plays in both her High School Orchestra and its Chamber Orchestra.   Every year since 2007, she has performed with the Westchester All County Orchestras.  Beginning in 2009, Surin has been the principal cellist of the Greater Westchester Youth Orchestra Junior Strings.

 Moriah Trenk of Scarsdale is a senior at Scarsdale High School and studies piano with Paul Ofstrovsky at SUNY Purchase.  She has recently performed with her High School Orchestra, in a solo performance for Friends of Music and the Arts in Scarsdale and at a winners’ concert in the Steinhardt at Saklad Series.  In 2009, Moria played the Mendelssohn G minor Concerto with the Yonkers Philharmonic as a winner in their Concerto Competition.  She was also a runner-up in the Westfield Symphony’s Concerto Competition.  Last year, she received a merit scholarship from the International Keyboard Institute and Festival at Mannes College of Music, and in 2009 she was a winner in NYU’s Art of Solo and Collaborative Piano Competition.

 The members of the Shiromoto-Miyashiro-Szanto Trio are all 9th graders who began playing together last October.  Their chamber music coach and teacher is Gary Kosloski at Hoff-Barthelson.  Koji Shiromoto of Scarsdale attends Scarsdale Middle School and studies piano with Helene Jeanney.  Andreas Miyashiro of Chappaqua attends Horace Greeley High School and studies violin with Peggy Klinger.  Aron Szanto of Scarsdale attends Scarsdale Senior High School and studies cello with Peter Seidenberg.
