Irvington’s Thursday Club Will Hold Fund Raiser to Support Environmental Causes

Groundwork Hudson Valley will be beneficiary for monies gathered at annual dinner/dance at the Trump National Golf Club in Briarcliff Manor.

Irvington’s Thursday Club is holding its Annual Dinner and Dance at the Trump National Golf Club in Briarcliff Manor, NY, on April 22. This event has raised up to $100,000 in the past for charitable organizations and worthy foundations.

Chosen to be this year’s beneficiary is Groundwork Hudson Valley.

Based in Yonkers, this organization conducts programs to better the environment, build community engagement or help the under-privileged. Its priorities include facilitating, improving and beautifying neighborhoods of low-income families, paid landscape training for public housing residents and providing at-risk teens with summertime green-related jobs and job training. Groundwork Hudson Valley is celebrating its twelfth year of operation.
  
Its accomplishments in 2011 included bringing a 10-year effort to a successful conclusion to create a river park in downtown Yonkers, the welcoming of 10,000 children and adults to its Science Barge, the rescuing of 300 endangered trees from invasive vines along the Saw Mill River, and the distribution of 6,000 pounds of locally grown produce to needy individuals, families and food banks.

Both open and silent auctions will be conducted at the annual benefit.

Donated items up for bid during the silent auction are expected to include jewelry, art, dinner for four at Blue Hill at Stone Barns in Pocantico Hills, a Thanksgiving weekend stay at the Yale Club in Manhattan, a week at a condo on Lake Winnipesaukee (in New Hampshire), a private jazz concert on a barge, a kayak trip on the Hudson River, an antique child’s chair, an art gallery tour for six, sporting event tickets and more.

One of the live auction prizes is a four-night stay at Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni, a resort in Bellagio (Lake Como area), Italy. Auction prizes may be paid for by cash, check or credit card.

The Larry Siegel Band will entertain. Cocktail service will start at 5 p.m. and dinner will begin at 6 p.m.

An attendance of about 225 people is anticipated.

The Thursday Club, founded in 1921, selects a different recipient each year for funding or in some years, two organizations. The recipients of its philanthropy are usually providers of social services or health care, or are civic, cultural or environmental organizations. Recent beneficiaries include the Westchester Community College Foundation in Valhalla, the Tarrytown Music Hall, The Irvington Town Hall Theater, the Andrus Children's Center, and the Bereavement Center of Westchester in Tuckahoe.

The Thursday Club's current membership numbers about 40 women.

Costs for attending the dinner/dance benefit include $250 (individual admission), $350 (Patron status) and $450 (Benefactor status) per person. One-hundred-fifty dollars of the cost is not eligible as an IRS charitable deduction.
