DoubleTree by Hilton Tarrytown Becomes First Full-Service Hotel in Westchester to Provide Free WiFi Access in Guest Rooms

The DoubleTree by Hilton Tarrytown rang in the New Year by offering a new amenity for the modern traveler— free high-speed and wireless Internet access in all of its  247 guest rooms.

In so doing, the DoubleTree by Hilton Tarrytown became the first full-service hotel to provide free WiFi access in Westchester in all guest rooms and one among a minority of full-service hotels across the nation to do so.

Rich Friedman, General Manager, said that the step is a result of the hotel’s continuing commitment to meet the needs of its guests. "We learned from listening to them that the number one amenity they want is free access to the online world from the convenience of their rooms where they can stay connected anytime via their mobile devices—smart phones, tablets and laptops. We are pleased to announce that this capability is now available.”

The DoubleTree by Hilton Tarrytown’s survey echoes the findings of recent hotel industry assessments of the expectations of the modern traveler. According to a Hotels.com Amenities Survey, “Free WiFi trumps both free parking and complimentary breakfast when it comes to choosing a hotel for both leisure and business travel, showing that access to the online world is a necessity for modern-day travelers with over a third still looking to stay connected while on vacation.”

Another independent survey last year from Smith Travel Research Inc. shows that 84 percent of luxury hotel chains and 76 percent of upper-upscale hotel chains still charge forWi-Fi or offer free WiFi on a limited basis such as in the lobby. ”Compared to other full-service hotels in our league, the DoubleTree by Hilton Tarrytown is ahead of the curve,” Friedman stated.

Friedman noted that free WiFi access in the guest rooms continues the DoubleTree by Hilton Tarrytown’s tradition of providing today’s sophisticated traveler with value-added services since the hotel re-opened six years ago following a major renovation. Among the recent additions have been providing visitors with the convenience of renting a car from an on-premises Hertz reservation desk and offering free copies of The Wall Street Journal.

“Today, small and medium-sized firms account for the majority of businesses inWestchester and provide us with opportunities to tailor our services to this highly dynamic market. Providing free WiFi access in the guest rooms will be especially attractive and convenient to both the local business community and to business travelers.”

Set on 11 acres of landscaped grounds in the heart of the Hudson Valley, the Doubletree by Hilton Tarrytown comprises 247 guest rooms, 24,000 square feet of meeting and pre-function space, the largest Grand Ballroom in Westchester County, a Business Center, indoor pool, day spa, sauna, and state-of-the-art fitness center, complimentary parking and Bistro Z restaurant—offering a country atmosphere and friendly service for both business guests and vacationers.
