COLLEGE ROUNDUP - 1/13-19

At the Lehigh Challenge on January 18th, Gillian Berger of Sleepy Hollow won the women's high jump, going two feet farther than other competitors. 

Lisa Bucci and her Salve Regina Seahawks now have a record of 7-8:5-3.

Sandro Carissimo and the Vermont Catamounts are now 10-:4-0. Their most recent wins were over Maine and UMBC, wherein he scored a total of 18 points.

Alison Coppola and the Bates women's basketball team now have a record of 7-9:0-3, after their loss to Amherst, which now are 15-1 on the season.

Abbey Flock of Johns Hopkins finished 33d of 17 runners at Maryland in the women's 5000 race, with a clocking of 18:07.11.

Katie Flood of Oswego won three races in the home swim meet with Buffalo with her team the winners, 150-131.

Tara Gabelman had a fabulous week, leading the Connecticut College basketball team in each game played. The highlight was in a game at Rivier College, wherein she scored 26 points in the Camel's 84-73 win. The team is 9-6:1-1.

Marley Giddins continued her outstanding basketball playing for Amherst. At Tufts, she rang up 13 points in her highlight for the week.

Penn Gottfried competed in two wrestling meets for Columbia, winning at 125 pounds once, and losing twice. 

Jesse Gourevitch and the Carleton College men's swim team had a win with Hamline on the 17th. The score was 206-74.

Tina Hinman competed in two swim meets for Washington of St. Louis this week. She was 3rd and 2nd in diving competition

Craig Halpin had assists in both hockey games for Fitchburg State. The team record is 6-9:3-5.

The Herlitz-Ferguson twins of Cornell dived well in a meet with Columbia. Marita had a first and a second, and her sister Bianca had a third and a fourth place finish. Columbia won the meet, 197-94.

Brittni Lai's Marist basketball team won two and lost one game during the week. After bowing to Iona, the Red Foxes topped Niagara, and Lai had her best showing in the Canisius 73-47 win, scoring 4 points and having 5 assists, with the record now 13-5 on the season. Drew Longo  wrestled against Navy in Lehigh's 26-6 win over the Naval Academy.

Sarah Madigan competed for Haverford in squash meets with Yale and Tufts. In the latter match, she bowed to her opponent, 11-2,11-8, and 11-7.

Lexi Martins of Lehigh played in an 87-82  basketball win over Holy Cross, scoring 3 foul points and having 4 rebounds in the win. The record is 9-8:2-4

Cara Morris competeted in swimming against Babson and St. Josephs of Maine, participating in the 200 Medley Relay, the 100 Backstroke, and the 200 Individual Medley. Her team topped Babson, 169-119, and St. Josephs, 218-45.

Brett Pastore wrestled for Shippensburg against Ursinus and three other colleges. He lost his 165 pound bouts to Stevens, Franklin & Marshall, and Sacred Heart.

Ashley Riefenhauser started in basketball games with Oswego, Plattsburgh, and Potsdam. The Hawks lost to all three opponents, with the record now 2-12:0-7.

Jon Salandra of Franklin & Marshall competed well in games with Muhlenberg and McDaniel. He scored 15 points in each game, and the team's record is now 10-5:6-2.

Julian Saliani of Johns Hopkins ran in the 3000 at Maryland,and finished 12th off 53 runners. 

Mark Siden of Gettysbug played in games with Haverford and Swarthmore. The bullets lost toHaverford, 69-56 and topped Swarthmore, 71-50.

Tavy Smith of Colgate swam well in meets with Lafayette and Army. His Red Raiders defeated the Leopards and lost to Army. 

Andy Schunk and Peter Malarczyk competed in swimming at Monroe Community College, with Schunk also in action with Carnegie Mellon at Westminister. The Blue Knights topped Monroe C.C, 103-69, and lost to Carnegie-Mellon.

Victor Yan of Carnegie-Mellon, pole vaulted in a meet at West Virginia U., and finished 11th of 12 vaulters with his best height 3.9 meters.
