   COLLEGE ROUNDUP - 9/2-8 After being sidelined for the first three games with an ankle injury , soccer forward Travis Blair of Hastings and Wheaton College returned to action by scoring two of the Lyons' three goals, with the first coming unassisted at 32:09, and his second on a penalty kick at 83:25, in the 3-1 victory over Keene State on September 7th. Rebeccah Bortz and the Chapman women's soccer team hosted St. Olaf on September 6th, blanked the guests, 11-0, as she had 3 shots,with 2 on goal, , Claire Brooks and the Gordon College women's soccer team hosted Worcester Poly on September 4th, and won the game,1-0, as Brooks played off the bench in the game, while in another home contest with Suffolk on September 7th, a 7-0 win, she had one scoring assist at the 26:28 mark. At Worcester State on September 7th, Lisa Bucci and the Salve Regina field hockey team scored the first goal at 21:47 in the 5-1 victory. Luke D'Alessandro of Hastings and Muhlenberg and teammate Darnell Davis of Hackley, opened the football season at home with The Apprentice School on September 7th, a lopsided 59-6 win over the Builders. In his first ever action for the Mules, D'Alessandro entered the game with five minutes to go in the 4th quarter, and carried the ball six consecutive times for his total of sixteen yards, while Davis had one solo tackle on the day. Kevin Degnan of Irvington and Western New England, began the football season by hosting Springfield College on September 7th, as he was the starting right tackle in the high scoring 49-40 loss. HIs older brother, senior Sean Degnan of Springfield, was the starting right tackle for the visitors. Free safety Skyler Griffenberg of Ardsley and Ithaca, kicked off the pigskin season on September 7th at home with Moravian, and in the 31-7 win, he had one tackle and an assistant tackle. Michelle Huddleston of Dobbs Ferry(Hackley) and the Roanoke College field Hockey team hosted Centre College on September 6th at Danville, Va. , and bowed to their guests, 5-1, and then on the 7th played against Sewanee (The U. of the South) at the same locale, and dropped a 4-3 game. Michael Kennelly of Irvington and Oneonta competed in the Flower City tourney at Rochester on September 6th and 7th. Against Hobart, he won his singles match, 6-2,6-0, and then his doubles team lost theirs, 8-3. With R.I.T as the opposition on September 7th, he won his singles match, 6-0,6-1, and he and his doubles team copped their match, 8-3. Alexis Lorusso of Irvington and Albright U. , a 2nd year goal tender for their soccer team, played the second half of the season opener against Penn State-Berks, and allowed no goals against and had four saves in the losing 3-1 game. On September 4th, in a victory at Immaculata U., she played the full 2-1 game, gave up one goal against and made two saves. Ali Marpet of Hastings, and starting offensive left tackle at Hobart, opened the season at Dickinson on September 7th, and were returned the victors, 30-7. Starting offensive right guard Michael Minerva of Sleepy Hollow/Pleasantville and Endicott , was in the losing home game with Framingham State, as the guests won the day, 35-23. Joanne Mumbey of Dobbs Ferry and a cross country runner at Johnson & Wales, competed at the Roger Williams Invitational on September 7th, and was the first of her team to cross the finish line, and did so in 21:27, as her squad finished 10th i the met, with 193 points. Ryan Pastore of Hastings and a booter for the University of Rochester, in a soccer game at St. Lawrence on September 6th, played off the bench in the 1-0 loss , while at home on the 7th with Clarkson, he assisted on the 6th goal at 49:50, as the Yellow Jackets blanked their guests, 7-0. Bobby Small of Sleepy Hollow, a scat back for Anna Maria, in the season home opener at home with Worcester State on September 7th, a 34-6 loss, provided the sole touchdown for his team at 14:33 of the third quarter, wherein he took the snap from the center, found an opening, and scampered 84 yards into the end zone. On the day, he ground out a total of 140 yards. Tom Spenser of Hastings, goalie for the Rhode Island Ram's Division 1 soccer squad, in a home contest with Providence on September 6th, lost 2-1, and in the game he had 7 shots against, 2 goals against, and made 5 saves, while on the 8th, hosting Bryant, they won, 3-1, and he had 7 shots against, 1 goal against, and made 6 saves. Emma Sweeting of Hastings and Mt. Holyoke, in a volleyball game at Newbury on September 3d, had another big day in a 3-0 sweep of the host squad, as she led all players with 13 sweeps on the day , while on the 7th, at St. Joseph's of Ct. they first played against the host team, and won 3-1,with Emma having 9 kills and 4 digs,, while in game two with Mitchell, she had 10 kills, 6 digs,and 2 aces. Sophie Sylla of Ardsley and Binghamton, in a soccer match with guests Lafayette on September 6th, a 2-0 win, saw action in he contest, while in another home contest with Niagara on the 8th, Younger sister Sarah, a freshman booter at Wesleyan, in the campaign inaugural with rivals Bowdoin on Septbmber 7th, also played in the 2-1 loss. Amee Tavzel of Ardsley, and a first year soccer player for Cornell, opened the season on September 6th at Sacred Heart, and appeared in the 8-0 win , and while hosting Colgate on the 8th, also saw action in the 3-0 loss. Lisa Tessitore of Dobbs Ferry, senior tennis player at Stevens Tech, in a match with guests Utica on September 7th, won her singles match, 6-0, 6-1, and the doubles event 8-3, while at Hartwick on September 8th, won 6-3, as she took her singles match, 6-0,6-0, and the doubles twosome also won, 8-2. A.J. Wolf of Hackley and a defensive lineman for Duke, in a game at Memphis on September 7th, played in the 28-14 victory over the Tigers. Mac Yumoto of Hastings and a forward for N.Y.U.'s soccer team, in a home game with Brooklyn College on September 6th, assisted on a goal in the 3-1 win, , while at the College of Staten Island on the 7th, he had 1 shot in the 2-1 victory.
