College Roundup - 9/7-15

COLLEGE ROUNDUP - 9/7-9-15 Spotlight on: Robert Small In a football game between Anna Maria College and hosts Maine Maritime of Castine, ME, Robert Small of Sleepy Hollow put on a scoring performance of amazing proportions, as he tallied 30 of his team's 55 points in the team's 55-49 victory. At 12:53 he scored on a 15 yard pass reception, followed at 01:50 by an 80 yard run for another T.D. His next came on a 32 yard jaunt at 09:10, followed at 9:56 by a 3 yard touchdown. The final was another 3 yard dash at 04:41, to round out his great day .Teammate and former Horseman alumnus and offensive center Stephen Hart played in the game as well. The team is 1-1 thus far. Travis Blair of Hastings and Wheaton, scored his team's third and clinching goal in a 3-1 victory over hosts Emanuel on September 10th, as he netted one on a pass at 84:20. At Wesleyan on September 14th, he was the star of the game, as he scored the first two goals in the 3-1 triumph - the first at 22:18 and the second as 29:42. On the day, Blair had 6 shots, 3 on goal, and the pair of tallies. The Lyons are now 4-1-1. At the Penn State Invitational cross country meet on September 13th, two Rivertowns harriers competed. In boys' action Julian Saliani of Irvington and Johns Hopkins finished 4th in the men's 6K race, clocked at 26:39, while Patrick Wortner of Dobbs Ferry was 17th, timed at 27.28. In girls 5.2K running, Abby Flock of Irvington( Hackley ) and Johns Hopkins was12th, with a clocking of 22:41. Overall, the Blue Jay men finished 4th, while the girls were 2nd. At Hardin-Simmons in Abilene, TX on September 14th , Rebeccah Bortz of Chapman U. and her soccer team lost to the hosts, 6-1, with the Dobbs Ferry alumna seeing action in the game. She also saw action in the 7-0 shut out of Howard Payne on September 15th, with the record now 3-2. At Roger Williams on September 10th, Emily Braun of Irvington and Clark, assisted on her team's lone goal at 55:35, as the hosts prevailed, 2-1. At Worcester State on September 14th, she had 1 shot on goal in the game, and the Cougars are now 2-3 on the season. With Colby-Sawyer as the guests on September 10th, Claire Brooks of The Masters School and Gordon College had one shot in goal in the two overtime win over the Chargers. In a 2-1 loss at home to Bridgewater State on September 10th, Lisa Bucci of Irvington and Salve Regina had 2 shots in the field hockey game, while at Salem State on September 13th in the 5-2 loss, she had 2 shots on goal and scored one goal. In the final game of the week at home with St. Josephs of Maine on September 14th with Western New England at home on September 14th, she led her team with 2 shots, one on goal in the 2-1 setback, with the record now 1-4. At Franklin & Marshall, the Muhlenberg Mules dropped a 28-21 game to their hosts, with Luke D'Alessandro of Hastings having one solo tackle, as the record is now 1-1. In a 33-7 loss at Westfield State, Kevin Degnan of Western New England, had 2 tackles and 1 assist in the game, with the record now 0-2. Dakota Dinaso of Ardsley and Bryant College had his first action for Bryant's football team in the 34-7 win over Assumption on September 7th. On September 14th, Sean Degnan of Irvington and Springfield was the starting left tackle in the Pride's white washing of guests Husson, 36-0. On September 11th, Alexis Lorusso of Irvington was in the nets for the first 70:35 minutes of Albright's 4-1 victory over Penn State-Harrisburg, and had no goals scored against her and made 1 save. The Lions' record is now 2-2. Mike Minerva of Sleepy Hollow and Endicott, was the starting left guard in their 43-7 win over hosts Castleton State, with the Sea Gulls' record now 1-1. In a 3-2 win over hosts Hobart on September 14th, Ryan Pastore of Hastings and Rochester saw action in the game. The Yellow Jackets are now 4-1 on the season. With Alex Sinatro of Hackley seeing action in the game, the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays topped guests Susquehanna, 24-7 on September 14th. In a 1-0 loss at Stony Brook on September 13th, Rhode Island goal tender, Tom Spenser of Hastings had 4 shots against, 1 goal against, and made 3 saves. At Mass. College of Liberal Arts on September 10th, the Lyons of Mt. Holyoke won their sixth game without a defeat, as Emma Sweeting of Hastings once again performed admirably as she had 4 spikes, 9 kills, and 17 total assists. Hostings Westfield State on September 14th in a morning game, they blanked their guests,3-0, as had 17 kills aand 2 digs, in the afternoon game with UMass- Dartmouth, she had 10 kills and 5 digs, as the streak reached 8-0 thus far. In a 2-0 loss at Temple on September 13th, Sophie Sylla of Ardsley and Binghamton saw action in the game. In a double overtime scoreless tie at home with Babson on September 14th, Sarah Sylla of Ardsley and Wesleyan had two shots in the game. In a double overtime scoreless tie at the U. of Buffalo on September 10th, Aimee Tavzel of Ardsley and Cornell saw play action in the contest, while hosting Marist on September 13th, she competed in the 2-1 win in overtime. Lisa Tessitore of Dobbs Ferry and Stephens Tech took her singles match, 6-1:6-2, and then her doubles twosome also won, 8-2, as the Ducks topped hosts St. John Fisher on September 14th, 9-0. At Alfred on September 15th, in another sweep, her doubles duo won, 8-1, and she won her singles match, 6-2,2-6,10-7. The record is now 5-0. In a cross country race at St. Mary's College of Minnesota on September 7th, Rebecca Wiersma of Dobbs Ferry and Carleton College made her collegiate debut as she finished 89th out of 95 runners with a clocking of 25:25. Her team finished 2nd of 4 schools with a score of 37 points. Mac Yumoto of Hastings and N.Y.U. and his soccer team their two games this week, as they topped C.C.N.Y., 3-1 on September 11, with the forward having 1 shot on goal, while he played in the 4-1 loss to Stevens on September 14th.
