COLLEGE ROUNDUP - 10/21-27

                    Spotlight : on Sarah Howe

At the Haverford Invitational Cross Country meet on October25th, Sarah Howe of Hastings finished a strong seventh out of sixty-six runners, with a clocking of 19:06.50, in the non-scoring meet.

In a 5-0 blanking of the Coast Guard Academy on October 26th, Travis Blair scored one goal unassisted at 17:25, and then popped his second of the day at 29:59, as the Wheaton Llyons raised their record to  12-5:5-1.

Rebeccah Bortz of Chapman U.played in her team's 3-1 loss to Pomona Pitzer on October 23rd, and then in a 2-1 loss to Occidental on October 26th, she scored her team's only goal at 40:41, with the record now 4-2-1.

At home with Wellesley on October 22nd, Emily Braun of Clark U. played in the Cougars' 1-0 loss, and next, on October 26th, she had one shot in the 2-0 loss to Wheaton, with the record now 4-12:1-7.

Claire Brooks of Gordon College had two shots on goal in the teams 1-0 loss to U. of New England, and then also saw action in the 3-1 loss to guests Roger Williams on October 26th. The record is now 15-3-0.

Lisa Bucci of Salve Regina, in a field hockey game on October 26th at  Endicott, scored the team's second goal at 49:34 in the 4-2 setback. She had a game high of nine shots, with eight on goal in the contest. The team is now 7-9:5-5.

At Juniata on October 26th, Darnell Davis of Muhlenberg had one tackling assist in the 27-7 win, with the record now at 5-2 on the season

In a 1-0 win at home on October 26th, Katie Gallop of the Williams College field hockey team, had one shot on goal in the game with guests Bates, as the record reached 6-8:4-6.

In a 34-14 loss with guests Wesleyan on October 26th, Alex Glazewski of Bowdoin had three solo tackles and seven assists, for a game high of ten, and also the quarterback for a loss, as the Polar Bears' record reached 2-4.

Josh Gorlick of Occidental College, had two solo tackles in the 44-34 win at home with Cal-Lutheran on October 26th, with the team's record now 3-3:2-2.

Both Skyler Griffenberg, who had five solo and two tackling assists, plus breaking up two passing attempts, and teammate Steve Delmoro starting the game at tight end, the Ithaca Bombers topped St. John Fisher in a tight 25-22 game at home on October 26th, with the record now 6-1.

Alexis Lorusso of Albright, played the entire game on October 23r at home with Widener, during which time she had one goal against and made seven saves , while playing the first 76:32 minutes away against Stevenson,a 4-1 loss, she had four goals against and had six saves. The team record now is 7-7-2:3-3-1.

Hobart remained undefeated (6-0) as they topped guests R.P.I. on October 26th, with Ali Marpet once again playing offensive left tackle in the game.

In a 33-7 win at home with The Coast Guard Academy,Mike Minerva of Endicott College saw action, as the record reached 5-2 thus far.

Rochester U.'s men's tennis team reached a record of 11-22-1, as they topped host Kean on October 26, with Nick Pastore seeing action in the matches. 

Nichole Riehm of the College of Mt. St. Vincent, had a busy week of volley ball as in a 3-0 loss at home to William Patterson, as she had two spikes in the game on October 22nd, while with Hunter on October 24th, she had one spike, and in the 3-0 win over Yeshiva on October 27th,she had one spike, three total assists, and three digs in the game. The Dolphins' record is now 8-17:603.

In a game at Norwich on October 26th, Stephen Hart of Anna Maria saw action in the 38-6 loss, with the record now 1-6:0-2.

Goal tender Tom Spenser of Rhode Island, at home with George Washington on October 25th, had 11 shots against, two goals against, and had nine saves in the 2-1 loss, while at Fordham on October 27th, in a 1-0 setbackh had nine shots against, one goal against, and had eight saves, with the record of the Rams now 2-10:0-4.

Emma Sweeting of the Mt. Holyoke volley ball team, in the Hall of Fame invitational in Springfield, MA. on October 25th and 26th, in the opener with Westfield, had four spikes an six kills, while against Colby,in the 3-1 loss, shefour spikes and five kills. In the 3-1 loss to Bridgewater State, she had four spikes and eleven kills, with the Lyons' record now 10-16.

In a soccer game at Trinity on October 23rd, Sarah Sylla of Wesleyan, had one assist in the 2-0 triumph, while with Middlebury on October 26th, she scored at 34:05, with the game ending in a 1-1 deadlock.

Sophie Sylla of Binghamton played in the 2-0 loss to guests Stony Brook, while she had one assist in the 4-0 shutout of UMass on October 24th, and hosting Vermont on October 27th, she saw action in the 2-1,double overtime loss. The record is now 8-7-2:3-4-1.
