Author Dr. Joan Steinau Lester and Literary Agent Cynthia Manson to Speak at Sarah Lawrence College

Author Dr. Joan Steinau Lester will read excerpts from Mama's Child, a novel that chronicles the life of a biracial family, in an open-to-the-public program at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville on Wednesday, October 23, 2013. 

She will be joined by Author's Agent Cynthia Manson who will discuss various ways for writers to get their work published. Manson will also participate in the question-and-answer session to follow Dr. Lester's presentation; questions from the audience will be welcome.

Mama's Child is a novel about the experiences of a white mother and her biracial daughter over a period of 30 years. 

Dr. Lester earned a doctorate in multicultural education and was the Executive Director of a nonprofit firm concerned with diversity, based in Emeryville, California. She is a member of its successor organization, the Equity Consulting Group.

Dr. Lester is a winner of the NLGJA Siegenthaler Award for her commentary on National Public Radio, the author of four novels and a member of a biracial family. She has appeared as a guest on hundreds of radio and television shows and is a member of the Squaw Valley Community of Writers.

Cynthia Manson is an instructor at the Writing Institute at Sarah Lawrence College, a consultant for Advertising Age and other Crain Communications publications, and an independent literary agent. She was formerly with the Sterling Lord Literary Agency and the publishing firms G.P.Putnam & Sons, Bertelsmann and Scientific American.

The authors Manson represents write novels, nonfiction and poetry for the book industry and movie, play and broadcast scripts. She graduated from Scripps College in Claremont, California with a B.A. in English Literature and Fine Arts.
