Candlelight Vigils Held Across Hudson Valley to Remember Newtown Victims
Area residents remember those lost in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
Communities held candlelight vigils across the Hudson Valley last night as thousands gathered in Newtown, CT, with President Barack Obama to mourn the 26 slain at Sandy Hook Elementary School by a neighbor.
In Rye, in Ossining, in Dobbs Ferry and elsewhere, people gathered in the rain to commemorate the Friday massacre of 20 first-graders and six adults inside Sandy Hook Elementary School. On Sunday, police confirmed that Adam Lanza, 20, was the gunmen who killed the children and staff members at the school, his mother at his home, and took his own life.
During a long moment of silence at Waterfront Park in Dobbs Ferry, an American flag flapped in the wind above nearly 100 people who gathered to remember the victims.
