Hudson River Swim For Life [PHOTOS]

Cross-river swim canceled due to rough weather; 1-mile swim goes on as planned.

The annual Hudson River Swim for Life drew 109 swimmers to raise money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Westchester/Hudson Valley Chapter on Saturday morning.

High winds made for rough conditions which forced the cancellation of the 3-mile cross-river swim from Nyack's Memorial Park to Kingsland Point Park in Sleepy Hollow, but the scheduled 1-mile swim from the Philipse Manor Boat Club to Kingsland Point Park went on as planned.

Thanks to everyone who came out and braved the mighty Hudson River in support of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission. There were 190 registered swimmers of which 175 completed the 1 mile swim in very windy and "washing machine like" conditions. Thanks to the legions of volunteers who, kayaked, provided on water vessel support and safety, worked on registering, feeding, entertaining and plain old helped out where ever they were needed. I am very proud to be a part of this community and grateful to the Village of Sleepy Hollow for being such a role model of cooperation throughout the planning and executions processes.

Congrats to all who did this! Next year we'll get across this washing machine river at last!

I had a good time.. I'm actually glad that I got to try 1 mile first in the choppy water. I definitely have to come back next year!
