Chris Day Announces Congressional Bid Against Lowey

The son of Rockland's new county executive wants to be the GOP candidate for the 17th Congressional District.

The son of Rockland County's new County Executive, Chris Day is seeking the Republican nomination for the 17th Congressional District seat now held by Rep. Nita Lowey (D-Rockland, Westchester.)

Redrawn in 2013, New York’s 17th Congressional District now includes all of Rockland County plus central and northwestern Westchester County. Now in her 13th term in Congress, Lowey is the ranking Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee.

In his announcement on YouTube, Day cited overdevelopment, taxes and high-quality jobs as residents' chief worries and said he shares those concerns.

"I've lived a life of service," said Day, who ran his father's campaign for County Executive in 2013. "I've spent time in the U.S. Army serving in two wars. i've seen combat, raised a family. I'm a homeowner and I currently work in the private sector ... I look forward to seeing you out on the campaign trail."

County Executive Day told the Nyack Free Press that he backed his son's bid.

Election Day 2014 is Nov. 4.

Morning George: death panels: a group of 300 in DC who will take phone calls from ALL health care providers to "ok" a procedure. would I want to turn away 3 Million who have signed up? yes: save for 4 states, premiums and deductibles are thru the roof. I cannot get catastrophic care ONLY in NYS - show me where I can if you can find a carrier willing to break the law. As for preexisting conditions? that could have been mandated by each state's insurance commissioner and dept. Why not drop interstate barriers to insurance carrier competition FIRST? NYSTLA (the "people" lawyer group in NYS) has been shouting that consumer plan for decades - but we trial lawyers are the bane of existence, right? we have no smarts or good ideas. What about that one? Each state protects it's own turf - open the borders to competition - any problems with that one? stop forcing me to buy a product I do not want nor do I need (The King's wool caps!!! - got 6 pence?). George - you throw the party line -the dems are not the party of yesteryear - they have turned into total racists, fascists and fools. and the CBO was it posits that after "full signup" with Imam Obamacare, there will still be 30 million uninsured. What to do about them, George? you should really read the bill before you write about it. Did you read the bill George? I'm still in the middle. AND if it is SO GREAT!!!!! wht has Obama unilaterally changed it (illegally) over 24 times? what was the problem that he has to change, drop, extend - all on his own - POTUS acts like an Imperial President - he is ILLEGAL - IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE!!! (his father was not a citizen, therefore - HE CANNOTY HOLD THE OFFICE OF POTUS - want to go "case law" with me? Google "JUSTIAGATE" AND READ!!!!! so I would ditch Obamacare and leave it to the market. PS: how many have lost their plans? over 3 million - why not give them back their choice and plans? want to turn THEM away? the "law" is pure scam.

Congrats to you Chris Day for making the decision to run against Lowey. It is encouraging to see a young leader rise up to the challenges our congressional district faces. Best of luck to you this year and it is indeed time for change and for a real representative of the people in the 17th congressional district.

FYI on the affordability of Obama care... first you pay your cheap premium,, maybe as little as 200 a month..then you pay your co-pays.. but you must hit your deductible.. a policy with a $6,000 deductible means you must Shell out over $6000 bucks and don't for get all the co pays you paid before the Plan kicks in.. what is so affordable about that..do the math.. $200 a month x 12 =$2,400 then add in the 6000 deductible you are at $8,400 a year (not counting any co pays).. you have been duped into the biggest shell game ever invented.. lets no go to the death panels and the limitations..and the Gov constant interference in What YOU Need and What the Plans will actually pay for..like it has been said.."The Devil is in the Details".. BTW Medicare the gun run program allows a pap smear for woman over 65 only once every two years.. not good.. not good at all..

Please do not confuse Republicans with any facts. Anti-science, anti-experts, anti-data, anti-women, anti-people of color, anti-gays, anti-healthcare reform, anti-minimum wage increase, on and on and on and on.... Why put anyone in government office who hates government?? How about better, more efficient, more effective government, instead of right wing drivel like "government is the problem", or "corporations are people too, my friend"? How utterly stupid can people possibly be? Put people in office who hate government and they will make it a self-fulfilling prophecy. The evidence is all around us with the right wing antics in our Federal Legislature and also in Republican dominated State Legislatures. You're not a conservative, are you??? LOL!!

Governor Astorino. Congressman Day. Both are very uplifting thoughts. This election cycle will sweep out a lot of liberals like Lowey and Cuomo. It may even sweep out a lot of centrist, moderate, go-along-to-get-along Republicans. Let's hope that the GOP has learned something from the last two presidential election cycles - differences sell. Dare to be different. Dare to wear your conservative ideals on your sleeves. Run truly conservative candidates (not phonies like Mittens and the Maverick).

Dan: Thank you for the Justiagate citing. I would encourage all the Google "Justiagate" as well. Very interesting. Another angle on the notion that little Barry is not a naturalized citizen and thus ineligible to be POTUS is that he attended public school in Indonesia from 1967 through 1971. During that period, Indonesian law required one to be a legal Indonesian citizen in order to avail themselves of a public education there. So, even IF little Barry was born in Hawaii, he would have had to denounce his U.S. citizenship in order to attend Punahou Elementary School in Indonesia.

the very idea that any Democrat has pushed for a more stream line, better run government is a hoot.. Obama alone has boosted the numbers employed by the Feds..thus making gov larger not smaller... talk about being in denial... yikes...

Comrade Riff: You may misunderstand the conservative ideology of smaller government. The Founding Fathers created The Unites STATES of America. In essence, the idea was to decentralize government out to the state level, and at the state level decentralize it to the municipal level. Overtime, state governments have become overbearing to municipal governments and the Federal government has become intolerably overbearing to state governments. The more we pass this influence up the line, the more we get public servants who are further and further detached from the will of the people (locally) and the idea of only spending what you have (a balanced budget). Government has become less and less representative of the people as those who rule with the most power have become further and further removed from the people. Conservatives do not despise government. We want a return to what the Founding Fathers contemplated.
jo February 25, 2014 at 11:26 AM
@ NY Patriot.. please continue to educate the great unwashed out there.. it is a pleasure to read your posts.. filled with accurate facts and passionate goals... Our Founding Fathers are turning over in their graves over the trampling of our Constitution.. and to see how the independent spirit of ones own destiny is being demonized as the libs push their agenda of "cradle to grave" control of our lives
New York Patriot February 25, 2014 at 11:32 AM
Thank you for your comment Jo. I have this image of Obama sitting next to a shredder putting slice after slice of the U.S. Constitution into it. The liberals will use the confetti for a ticker tape parade when they complete the Socialist transformation of our once great nation.
Jimriff February 25, 2014 at 03:56 PM
Patriot... The Founding Fathers found a way to get 13 colonies to pull together to form a union and pull it away from the English Monarchy, it was not founded as a means of getting to a "decentralized government" . This included a compromise which disenfranchises those of us in more populace states in favor of those living in places like Montana. Quaint idea for its time, but neither fair nor appropriate any longer. "States Rights" have been (ab)used by conservatives to trigger our Civil War and to otherwise deflect the need to govern this country as one.... Pollution travels across state lines and standards need to be set nationally, not state by state. Ditto for gun control and most other laws and regulations, where some modicum of consistancy should be put in place so we actually do move toward equality under the law. Married gays, low and behold, just like cars and buses, travel across state lines also, so our laws and safety regulations should be consistant. Historically, the conservative cries for "states rights", are transparenbtly rooted in efforts to obfuscate and avoid dealing with national problems of some consequence, most all of which freely and frequently travel across state lines and should be dealt with nationally. "States Rights" got us Governor George Wallace standing in front of school house doors, and just the other day, people in Arizona trying to facilitate private companies' ability to discriminate agains gays. While all of it doesn't need to be, and shouldn't be, directly controlled from any central point, national standards are what help us evolve and grow....Interstate Highway Systems, Air Traffic Control Systems, Canal Systems, Water Systems, Energy Generation Systems, our Postal System, on and on and on... Having 50 states running amok on any of this stuff makes no sense. The states, afterall, are not at all equal in size, or shape, or population, orresources, and are just accidents of this country's birth, with nothing whatever to do with effectively governing a 21st century nation-state. What we should be doing is getting rid of 50 expensive governments and all of their trappings, and replacing them with 6 or 7 regional. governments. Don't like too much government? Let's dump 70 percent of it right from the get-go. As for our "socialist transformation", there has been zero percentage of the US economy converted to state ownership under Obama. Even the car companies are back off of our books, and government as well as the debt and deficit grew far, far more under the last clown than it has under Obama. But hey, don't let any facts ever get in your way...
Dan Seidel February 25, 2014 at 04:04 PM
Jim: you need to take my law classes. Try reading the Federalist Papers, the Anti Federalist Papers and the Debates of the Framers. You have been raised with misinformation and you are really treasonous. We have a Republic of 50 Republics. We have a form of limited self government. We have a Constitution which really is the by laws of the country and then we have enshrinement of Natural Laws. What don't you like about the document? I happen to be enthralled with it - have you explored your Liberty and Freedoms? or are you a fascist of the left, the creature I was born as? It takes one to know one - and boy - you are really going Czarist. Go rad the docs and then comment. You are really ignorant of history and doctrine. Try John Locke for starters.

Riff: All that Liberal Kool-Aid must have you absolutely water-logged. And Dan may be on to something - it is likely that you do not read. Perhaps you could hold your nose just once/week and watch FOX News Channel from like 8:00-11:00 to hear another version of the world from a source that is decidedly not a liberal propaganda machine. I'd also point out that Riff may actually be agreeing with conservatives when he says, " Don't like too much government? Let's dump 70 percent of it right from the get-go". Riff, of course there are issues that are national in scope and others that are best left at state levels and yet others left at local levels. It's just that liberals are confused about which issues belong where and tend to push them up into bigger, more bloated government. They also were never taught to balance a checkbook or a budget. Sure, there are lots of great ideas. But there are limited dollars and we must prioritize. And...regarding the deficit...
New York Patriot February 25, 2014 at 07:12 PM
In short, when interest rates rise to normal levels, the U.S. Treasury will have great difficulty servicing the principal and interest of our $17+ Trillion national debt. At that point there are several options. One is to raise taxes to unbearable levels which will crush our economy. Another is to run the printing presses faster and faster– printing more and more U.S. Dollars – which will dramatically devalue the currency and cause hyper inflation. Once that occurs, it is likely that the IMF will pull the trigger on something they have been preparing for over the past several years. They will pull the plug on the U.S. Dollar as the world’s reserve currency. Remember, the country on the globe whose currency is the world’s reserve currency gets to run the ultimate Ponzi scheme. And when our license to run that Ponzi scheme is revoked, our economy comes crashing down like a high-rise building being imploded with explosives. Leveled. At that point the U.S. is economically irrelevant and you and I live in what is now a third world country. It is now time to pivot to the issue of our right to bear arms. Because when this all implodes you will need them to protect your property and your assets and your family.

Here is another reason to vote out the democRATS: The admin wants relations with the Hamas - a foreign policy blunder - like making peace with Hitler. O and his admin are full guns behind the opening - just like he supports the Ikhwan (the Muslim Brotherhood) - in fact one of Clinton's Foundation people was just arrested in Egypt for promoting violence and acting/inciting with the Ikhwan - Nita has been silent and therefore supporting the admin in this. Hamas now objects to the UN wanting to insert peaceful resistance into textbooks instead of violence - there is silence over this from Nita's office. Chris Day would be wise to wade into the foreign policy debate - Nita does not. http://www.globalmbwatch.com/2014/02/25/hamas-objects-school-curriculum-featuring-peaceful-resistance/

My oh my. Sensationalism at it's best! I'm not sure how the topic was drifted to Obama, Obamacare, Russia, China, Ponzi schemes, etc. I guess we'll see how this race goes. Good luck to Chris Day.
Dan Seidel February 26, 2014 at 04:13 PM
Congresspeople do more than local stuff - they do international stuff. They fund the military, foreign aid, the IRS, Obamacare - Power of the Purse (Federalist 58), entitlements, Obamacare... Obamacare..... Military Pensions.... THAAD.... so Chris should get busy and take positions - stake out the turf!!
New York Patriot February 26, 2014 at 05:59 PM
Lilly: It's all related. It's all about one political ideology versus another. It's all about what is best for our Country and what is destroying it - collectively. Happy that you support Chris Day but hope you will join us in our push back on the Liberal ideology that is destroying America.
