Chris Smither at Common Ground Concerts

Chris Smither is truly an American original -- a profound songwriter, Chris draws deeply from the blues, American folk music, modern poets and philosophers.  In concert at the Common Ground Concerts, he'll perform songs from his newest CD, Hundred Dollar Valentine, and treasures from his lengthy career.

Hundred Dollar ValentineChris Smither’s 12th studio record, is a masterwork.  It sports the unmistakable sound which has become his trademark, whether on record or live on stage: fingerpicked acoustic guitar and evocative sonic textures meshed with spare, brilliant songs, delivered in a bone-wise, hard-won voice.

National Public Radio:  "[Smither] taps his foot to keep the rhythm, much like the late blues legend John Lee Hooker.  His finger-picked guitar lines are sleek, unhurried and insistent.  And then there's the voice -- equal parts gravel and molasses, Smither's singing sounds like a distillation of the folk and blues heroes he grew up listening to in New Orleans."
