ECAD Project HEAL Graduation

Three Veterans of the Armed Services and their Service Dogs will graduate, together with one civilian. During the ceremony the Department of Defense’s operational
agency, EMPLOYER SUPPORT OF THE GUARD AND RESERVE (ESGR) will award Educated Canines Assisting with
Disabilities
(ECAD) a ‘Seven Seals Award’.

ECAD's Project HEAL honors and empowers wounded
warriors by providing specially trained Service Dogs to increase independence
and make a difference in their lives.

Project HEAL™ Service Dogs are individually trained by
at-risk teens in the ECADemy™ program. These specially trained dogs pick up
dropped objects, open and close doors, open refrigerators, pull wheelchairs,
prevent overcrowding in public, interrupt nightmares and flashbacks, remind to
take meds, warn of approaching strangers and reduce anxiety and stress, all the
while providing unconditional love and comfort.

ECAD does not charge the wounded warriors for these very
special Service Dogs and each veteran is provided with 13 days of Team Training
instruction in their Dobbs Ferry, NY facility. The costs incurred in the dog’s
extensive training ($25,000.00 for each specialized canine) and the warrior’s
housing is secured through fundraising, grants, corporate and private
donations.

The
award, depicting the heraldry seals of the seven military services, is given at
the discretion of the NYESGR Chairman Mr. Dennis Lutz to recognize the efforts
by a citizen, business or organization, whose supportive actions have benefited
all of the Guard/Reserve components in a significant manner.
