EXPLORING JEWISH WOMEN'S SPIRITUALITY, A PROGRAM IN DOBBS FERRY ON SUNDAY, FEBRURARY 9

Often
women are looking for connectedness to God, but do not know where to begin or
what resources exist to help their journey.  Exploring Jewish
Women’s Spirituality
, presented by Cantor Janet Leuchter, will be the
topic at Sisterhood GHC’s Brunch to be held at Greenburgh Hebrew Center in
Dobbs Ferry on Sunday February 9th at 10:00 AM. This event is free and open to
the public. Reservations are strongly suggested and can be made online at www.g-h-c.org/spiritual.

In her presentation, Cantor Janet will explore topics including
new paths to reclaiming Jewish women's spirituality; Shekhinah - the feminine
attributes of God; prayers developed by pioneering Jewish women; and forms of
feminine or gender neutral Jewish prayers.  She will also lead a
discussion about everyday spirituality for women, rituals, and when women have
felt most spiritually connected at various stages of their lives.

Cantor Janet was ordained by the Hebrew Union
College-Jewish Institute of Religion, where she brought to light a neglected
older repertoire of East European religious folksong for her Masters in Sacred
Music project.  At Greenburgh Hebrew Center, Cantor Janet leads the
community in prayer on Shabbat mornings and holidays, teaches in the Religious
School, and tutors GHC’s b'nei mitzvah.  She is currently exploring
"Jewish renewal"-style prayer through the Davenen Leadership Training
Institute of the Aleph Alliance.  She has also worked as a chaplain at
Memorial Sloan-Kettering Medical Center.  A long-time singer and teacher
of Yiddish song, she was the vocalist with the pioneering women's band
Klez-meydlekh.
