George Washington and the Summer of 1781: Lecture by Richard Borkow

Dr. Richard Borkow, author of George Washington's Westchester Gamble: the Encampment on the Hudson and the Trapping of Cornwallis, will speak at the Irvington Public Library on July 17 at 7:30 p.m. about a pivotal decision made in the summer of 1781, while George Washington's troops and Rochambeau's allied French troops made camp near Dobbs Ferry.  While George Washington's troops watched the movements of British ships and troops that held New York City, intelligence was brought to him from the West Indies that led to a secret strategy that ultimately won the Revolutionary War.  Dr. Richard Borkow is Dobbs Ferry's Village Historian and a trustee of the Dobbs Ferry Historical Society.  His book has been praised as a "riveting and descriptive telling of the story of the American Revolution and Westchester County's role in the Revolutionary War..."  Please register ahead for this program by telephoning (914) 591-7840.  Irvington Public Library, 12 South Astor Street, Irvington,  www.irvingtonlibrary.org/adultp.htm
