Help Build the New NY Bridge out of Donated Food!

JCC ON THE HUDSON COMMUNITY AND NEW NY BRIDGE TEAM PARTNER TO COLLECT FOOD, CREATE TASTY REPLICA FOR THE COMMUNITY

Using donations of nonperishable food items that will ultimately go to local families in need, members of the JCC on the Hudson and at-large communities will be joined by New NY Bridge project staff to build a food replica of the New NY Bridge.

Following a plan supplied by the project team and with assistance from her colleagues, May Burnett, the JCC’s artist-in-residence, will lead local families in assembling the more than 8-foot long structure.

“Particularly during this time of the year, we’re delighted to be part of this community endeavor and proud that the New NY Bridge was chosen as the icon for this project,” said Special Advisor to the Governor for the project Brian Conybeare.

The New York State Thruway Authority, which is replacing the existing Tappan Zee Bridge, selected Tappan Zee Constructors, LLC. (TZC) as the project’s design-build contractor in 2012.

The food was donated by JCC families, TZC and Stop & Shop supermarkets and consists of dozens of boxes of pasta, Slim Jims, containers of apple sauce, cases of bottled water, straws and Juicy Juice juice boxes, which are among the items that will form the roadway, towers and cables comprising the new structure.
