"In the Mind's Eye," photography exhibit by Renata Rainer

October Exhbit in the Martucci Gallery: "In the Mind's Eye," by Renata Rainer

"In the Mind's Eye," silver glycerin photographs and montages created by Irvington resident Renata Rainer will be on exhibit in the Martucci Gallery at the Irvington Public Library, from October 2 to October 30. This exhibit will include landscapes, still lifes and portraits. Renata Rainer shoots her photographs with an SLR camera and develops her film by hand in her own darkroom. She uses a variety of black and white photography techniques: photomontage, collage, infra-red photography and the use of paper negatives. Her works reflect her love of nature, art history and music. The many-layered images are atmospheric and evocative. The viewer is invited to use their own imagination to interpret the metaphors within the image. Rainer, MFA, had worked as a graphic designer for Newsweek and taught art and photography at the Pelham Art Center; Marymount, Tarrytown; at SUNY Purchase and Manhattanville College. She has exhibited at Lyndhurst, the Hudson River Museum; Boca Raton Museum; the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C.; the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center at the University of Texas, Austin and the Neuberger Museum at SUNY Purchase.

The Martucci Gallery at the Irvington Public Library is open Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, from 10 am to 5 pm; Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10 am to 9 pm. The Gallery is handicapped accessible and free parking is available for library visitors in front and behind the Irvington Library.
