Open House for New Teen Learning Initiative: "Risque and Risky Stuff in Judaism"

Greenburgh Hebrew Center (GHC) is proud to announce its 2nd year partnership with the Westchester Jewish Teen Learning Initiative (WJTLI)

The GHC course for the fall/winter semester is “Risqué and Risky Stuff
in Judaism” and will be taught by Simcha Willig, an instructor with the Jewish
Student Connection. The program will be held at GHC on Wednesdays from 6:30 –
8:15 pm on December 4,11 and 18 and January 8,15 and 22
. (Another course, to be
determined, will be held at GHC in the Spring.) A light bite will be provided to
encourage socialization among the students and staff, including GHC’s new madrich
(youth guide) this year, Jeremy
Frutkin, who also teaches modern Jewish history in the GHC religious school and
is also the Youth Director. This program is open to Jewish teens in grades 8 –
12. The cost is $500 for both semesters.

There will be an Open House on Wednesday November 6,
2013 at GHC from 6:30 – 8:00 pm for parents and teens to meet Simcha Willig. A
light dinner will be served. For additional information, please contact Debbie
Erdheim, Religious School Director, at RSDirector@g-h-c.org.

The course this fall/winter will address such
questions as: What does Judaism say about premarital sex? Cheating on tests or
in a relationship? Are drugs and alcohol permitted or prohibited? Why is there
so much guilt in Judaism? Are Jews allowed to get tattoos?

Simcha Willig’s interests in Jewish
education have brought him to the classroom and pulpit and travels in North
America, Israel and South Africa. He is a Ph.D. student at NYU, researching the
fields of education and Jewish studies.
