"The Arab Bedouin and the Prawer Plan: Ongoing Displacement in the Negev"

Following a brief havdallah service, guest speaker Nadia Ben-Youssef will present information about the history of Bedouin residence and land ownership in the Negev and the Israeli government's ongoing policy of displacement of the community. She will include a few case studies about Adalah's (The Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights) work in challenging displacement, an overview of the Prawer Plan to relocate thousands of Negev Bedouins, and information about the Alternative Plan proposed by the Bedouin community. Dessert will follow.

Nadia Ben-Youssef is a human rights lawyer and international advocate who has coordinated the international advocacy for Adalah - The Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel in the organization's Naqab (Negev) office in southern Israel, and in 2013 began her role as the organization’s first US Representative.  Her work with Adalah has focused primarily on challenging Israel's violations of the human rights of the indigenous Palestinian Bedouin community. She obtained an AB in Sociology from Princeton University and graduated cum laude from Boston College Law School with a concentration in Human Rights and International Justice.
