The "Gold Prize" came with a $30,000 reward for the Rivertowns-based organization.

Dobbs Ferry non-profit organization The Children’s Village took home first place in the 2013 New York Community Trust-New York Magazine Nonprofit Excellence Awards, held Thursday, Nov. 21 at the Scholastic Auditorium in SoHo.

After an intensive, nine-month judging process, which started out with 62 applicants, The Children’s Village was honored with the “Gold Prize,” which includes a $30,000 award.

In addition to their cash rewards, winners will receive a special mention in New York Magazine and by WNYC, and tuition scholarships for the programs in Social Enterprise in Executive Education at Columbia Business School

This year’s cash awards and benefits are the largest in the program’s seven-year history.

“The techniques of the best-run nonprofits offer great lessons to scores of other nonprofits as well as small businesses across New York State,” Lorie Slutsky, President of The New York Community Trust, said.

President of Philanthropy New York Ronna Brown echoed Slutsky’s sentiments.

“Congratulations to all of this year’s applicants, and especially our three winners, for sharing their practices with us and demonstrating the best of our sector,” she said.

“Having the awards ceremony double as a learning opportunity embodies what the Nonprofit Awards are all about — the exceptional skills and methods that enable our sector to serve so many diverse communities,” Brown added.
