Marlies' Artsbeat: Met's Live-in-HD-Opera-at-the-Movies Season #7

Hurray and hurry! It's time to order your tickets for the new season of those fabulous Live-at-the-Met-Opera-Movies in HD, offered to us right here in Westchester.

Hello there, all you Opera Buffs,

It’s time again for all of us in Westchester -- and all around the planet, for that matter -- to select which of the Met’s “Live in HD “ performances we plan to attend this season. Probably for a goodly number of you, it will mean purchasing the entire set of 12 offerings for 2012-2013.

As usual, for us, they will be shown at the WHITE PLAINS City Center 15: Cinema De Lux and NEW ROCHELLE: Regal New Roc City 18 movie theaters. Priority Tickets for Opera Guild members start selling on August 24th. Regular tickets go on sale September 4th.

If you, by chance, are new to this “gift” the Met’s Peter Gelb has presented to the world, let me try and sell you! (I won’t have to try hard, because it is the musical entertainment bargain of the Century, transmitted to over 1700 venues in every continent of our planet.)

You will be viewing the opera as though you were seated approximately in the 8th-Row-Center of the Met’s orchestra section, for a tiny fraction of the price for that seat. And you will get close-ups of the singers that even the best opera glasses cannot deliver. Intermissions will take you backstage for highly informative features and to meet the stars as they exit the stage after their curtain calls.

All of this is offered to us without the cumbersome trip into Manhattan, sans the cost of Metro-North tickets or gasoline and parking. And remember, the Matinee performance, as said, is truly “live.” What they sing is what you get – most often glorious, sometimes with vocal warts. You are there!

For those who have followed my reviews of the performances through the years, I will now be delivering them in Blog form. You can still leave me messages, or email me as usual.

See you in that 8th-Row-Center seat. Let’s all enjoy!
