art exhibit today-Greenburgh Town Hall

The Greenburgh Arts and Culture Committee, chaired by Sarah Bracey White, is sponsoring a terrific program this afternoon that you and your family members might enjoy. Music...refreshments...art work from senior citizens..  It's free! .our Greenburgh Town Hall has become one of the regions best art galleries --thanks to Sarah's hard work.
Sarah is at Town Hall working on enhancing the arts almost non stop -days, evenings, weekends. And - funding for her program comes from private grants and the Lanza Family Foundation. We are lucky to have her!

“Matters of the HeART” consists of three consecutive exhibits of original multimedia art created by Westchester County seniors who are over the age of 55. The three exhibit venues are Greenburgh Town Hall, the Helen Andrus Benedict Retirement Community in Hastings on Hudson, and Fordham University's Harrison Campus. “Matters of the HeART” covers a ten week period, and includes three meet-the-artists opening receptions that bring community members of all ages together to celebrate the creativity of Westchester seniors. It also includes a private “meet-and-greet exchange” for the artists included in the exhibits.

The 8th annual Matters of the HeART exhibit at Greenburgh Town Hall will hold its opening reception Sunday March 16th , 2012 from 2 - 5 pm. Included in the exhibit will be portraits, abstracts, landscapes, garden and nature scenes, flowers, animals, two and three dimensional sculptures, photographs (some digitally enhanced), and fiber art. The opening reception will feature live music and tasty refreshments while artists and guests peruse the multi-dimensional exhibit spread throughout the first and second floors of Town Hall.  The exhibit will remain open to the public Mondays thru Fridays, from 9 am until 5 pm, until May 6th, 2012. There is no admission charge and the building is handicapped accessible.

This annual exhibit is co-sponsored by the Greenburgh Arts and Culture Committee and Helen Andrus Benedict Foundation.  Matters of the HeART provides a unique opportunity for older artists and the public to celebrate and support creative aging through the arts.  Since Westchester is at the forefront of communities where the national average of senior residents exceeds the national norm, this exhibit exemplifies the wide variety of creativity that our older artists posses. Many pieces in the show are for sale. A donation from all sales goes to the Arts and Culture Committee for support of its activities. Greenburgh Town Hall is located at 177 Hillside Avenue and is open from 9am - 5 pm, Mondays - Fridays.  Special guided tours are available by request.  Call 914-682-1574 to schedule a tour.
