Attention all public school parents! When NY State was running a budget deficit several years ago, our legislators used a clever accounting trick (called the Gap Elimination Adjustment or GEA) to cut public school funding to every school district and thereby balance the budget. Well, now we have a state budget surplus and funding still hasn't been restored. For Hastings, this loss to our schools runs about $700,000 PER YEAR.
