Judge Janet Malone nominated by Democratic Party for NY State Supreme Court Justice

WESTCHESTER, NEW YORK SEPTEMBER 2013 JUDGE JANET C. MALONE was nominated as a Democratic Candidate for New York State Supreme Court Justice for the Ninth Judicial District –Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Dutchess, and Putnam Counties – and will be on the Democratic Ballot in the general election on Tuesday, November 5, 2013. Judge Malone has been rated “highly qualified for election as Justice of the Supreme Court” by the Independent Judicial Election Qualification Commission for the Ninth Judicial District, and she has been endorsed by the Westchester/Putnam Central Labor Body, AFL--‐CIO; New York State Court Officers’ Association; the Building and Construction Trades Council of Westchester and Putnam Counties, New York; the LGBT Bar Association of Greater New York; the Indian--‐American Forum for Political Education; and the Indian--‐American Democrats of Westchester County. Judge Malone has a diverse twenty--‐three (23) year legal career as a Manhattan Assistant District Attorney, a private practitioner, a consultant to the New York City Transit Authority, an elected Westchester County Family Court Judge, and currently, as an Acting Supreme Court Justice by appointment of the Chief Administrative Judge. Judge Malone has served on the Westchester Family Court since 2003, first as a Support Magistrate, handling child support, spousal maintenance and paternity cases and then, in 2007, as an elected Family Court Judge presiding annually over approximately 2,500 cases involving child neglect and abuse,juvenile delinquency, persons in need of supervision (PINS), domestic violence, child custody and visitation, adoptions, guardianships, and aspects of paternity and support. As Acting Supreme Court Justice, Judge Malone presides over uncontested divorces assigned to her from the matrimonial part of the Supreme Court in Westchester County. Judge Malone holds admissions to the United States Supreme Court, the United States District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and the Second Judicial Department of the State of New York. She holds memberships in many professional organizations and serves on various professional and community boards. She has received numerous awards for her community service and her commitment to families and children and in 2011, the Chief Judge for New York State honored her with an invitation to testify at the Public Hearing on Civil Legal Services for low--‐income families and individuals. For several years Judge Malone has participated in the Mentoring Program established by Judge Judyn Scheindlin, which provides a platform for young women in Westchester high schools to reach their full potential reinforcing the importance of a college education and ultimately a meaningful profession.
