Every other Wednesday, we're going to share with you a local mom we think is awesome. We'll ask her some questions and hear about how she manages life with kids in our area. We hope you'll enjoy getting to know some of our neighbors.
Leslie Zeldes lives in Irvington with her two children, Harley (15) and Amanda (11). Leslie is the founder and owner of .
1. How do you balance being a mom and working?
Leslie feels like the juggling her work schedule and being a mom goes "quite well." She shares custody of her children equally, so she has them at home one week on, one week off. Leslie works "mainly when the kids are at school and makes sure to schedule the day to end before school is out."
2. Tell us more about your work- we'd love to hear more it!
Leslie owns and is the the sole proprietor of Personalized Pilates, a pilates studio in her home. She started the business almost 4 years ago, after being in the corporate world and then raising her children. For her, "personalized" in Personalized Pilates is the key word. Most of her clients do private lessons on the machines and come from all walks of life. She also teaches some small group classes. She finds that "the main thread is they need a workout that challenges them and fits to their schedule."
Leslie works hard at accommodating their time constraints and helping them reach their personal fitness goals. She knows that "no one person's body or fitness level is the same and builds individual programs based on their goals and abilities. If they have injuries and limitations, things can be modified." Most importantly, Leslie strives to give her clients "the privacy and personal attention they need." To learn more, visit her website or Facebook.
3. When you find time for yourself, what do you enjoy doing locally?
When Leslie has free time, she is usually training. She is a beginner triathlete and juggling a "schedule that is pretty active." She does enjoy "eating at the wonderful restaurants and scenery of the Rivertowns, seeing live music, and a good movie." She also tries to visit some of the "historic places in Westchester, such as Stone Barns, Lyndhurst and more."
4. What are some of your top things to do around Westchester with your family?
Leslie's kids are quite busy on weekends with dance and spots. Her daughter "spends a lot of time at Sleepy Hollow Performing Arts Center with dance and they put on great performances," and Leslie enjoys watching her practice. Her son plays Varsity football and has a rigorous training schedule, but she takes him on Saturdays to Boticelli Xtreme Training Center, and she stays to watch his work out.
They consider themselves "regulars at in Irvington." For this family, one of their favorite, and simplest pleasures is just walking in the town of Irvington."
5. What is your favorite thing about living in this area?
Leslie's favorite thing about Westchester, "especially about Irvington, is the home town feeling. It feels like you are in New England, and the people make that feeling."
