Verizon crews are working out on Farragut Avenue in Hastings this morning after an early morning car accident affected two poles just south of Saunders Street.

According to the Hastings Police Department, several callers reported an overturned car with a person trapped inside at approximately 3:37 a.m. this morning.

Police, fire and medical responders went to the scene, where the vehicle—which apparently had been speeding while heading south—had flipped over and struck a pole. It then continued on a grassy area adjacent to the right side of the road, striking another pole.

Con Edison was also called to the scene to assist with downed power lines.

The driver, a 22-year-old Hastings man, was transported to Westchester Medical Center.

Police also responded to the hospital and charged the man with a misdemeanor DWI, as well as a speeding violation.

A telephone line junction box was knocked down during the accident, police said.

Verizon workers at the scene this morning said some service to Farragut Avenue customers had been affected, and Con Edison shut off some power in the area as a precaution.

The vehicle is no longer at the scene, but debris from the car is scattered alongside the road.
